- Clean One-Piece Mask Removal
- Chemical-Process Masking Resistance
Product Description
3M Polyester Tape 8992 is a dark-green polyester masking tape with pressure-sensitive silicone adhesive for high-temperature masking and process protection. The 0.082 mm tape uses a 0.052 mm polyester backing and provides typical adhesion to steel of 48 N/100 mm, tensile strength of 998 N/100 mm, and 148% elongation. The silicone adhesive performs from -50 to 204 deg C, while the polyester construction provides thermal, abrasion, and chemical resistance. The strong backing supports one-piece removal without slivering and leaves a sharp paint line after masking.
Key features
- High-temperature silicone masking: The silicone adhesive performs from -50 to 204 deg C for demanding masking and process exposure.
- Strong one-piece removal: A 998 N/100 mm typical tensile strength supports removal through cured coatings without slivering or breaking.
- Chemical-process masking resistance: Polyester construction and silicone adhesive support masking in anodizing and acid or caustic chemical-milling operations.
Applications
Applications include powder-coat masking, anodizing and chemical-milling masking, composite vacuum-bag holding, flash breaking, and scratch protection during handling and shipping.
