Product Description

LOCTITE EA 9359.3 AERO is a two-component structural epoxy paste adhesive with non-sag handling, integrated 0.13 mm glass beads for bondline thickness control, and a 2:1 dual-cartridge format with static mixer. The yellow Part A and blue Part B form a green mixed adhesive with a typical density of 1.12 g/mL. Pot life is mass-dependent at 25°C, ranging from 60 minutes for 100 g to 40 minutes for 450 g. The adhesive cures at room temperature or with an accelerated 1-hour cure at 82°C for small mixed quantities. Typical testing on phosphoric-acid-anodized 2024-T3 AlClad aluminum demonstrates tensile lap shear and T-peel performance, while the cured adhesive provides resistance to water, salt spray, and most organic fluids.

Preparation, application, and cure

Processing and Cure

Control the component ratio, mixed mass, surface condition, assembly support, and cure schedule. The exotherm increases with mixed quantity, so batch size is a safety-critical processing parameter.

Surface preparation: Bonding surfaces should be clean, dry, and properly prepared before adhesive application.
Component mixing: Bring the separate components close to room temperature, combine Part A and Part B at the correct ratio, and mix thoroughly. Complete mixing is required.
Working time: At 25°C, typical pot life is 60 minutes for 100 g, 50 minutes for 200 g, and 40 minutes for 450 g. Working time decreases as mixed mass increases.
Assembly and handling: Apply the mixed adhesive, assemble the parts, and maintain contact until the adhesive is set. Handling strength develops after 24 hours at temperatures above 25°C; keep loads small because full bond strength has not yet developed.
Cure: Normal performance develops after 5–7 days at 25°C. For small mixed masses, accelerated cure up to 93°C may be used; 1 hour at 82°C provides complete cure.
Batch and cleanup control: Do not mix more than 450 g because uncontrolled exotherm and toxic fumes can occur. Remove excess uncured adhesive from equipment and work areas before it hardens, using an appropriate solvent under its safe-use instructions.
Storage and Handling

Keep the components tightly closed in their original containers in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks, flame, and incompatible materials. Shelf life is 1 year at 25°C for Part A and Part B; store Part A at or below 25°C. Avoid mixing the components until the adhesive will be used immediately. For industrial use only; follow the current product-label and safety instructions for both components before handling.

Approximate service temperature is 93°C, defined as the temperature at which the adhesive retains 1,000 psi (6.9 MPa) tensile lap shear using ASTM D1002. The cured adhesive also provides resistance to water, salt spray, and most organic fluids. Exposure performance should be confirmed for the exact fluid, concentration, temperature, duration, substrate, and joint design.
The service-temperature value is a retained lap-shear criterion, not a guarantee of unchanged properties or long-term durability throughout all environments.
