MOLYKOTE 3099
Harmonization Code : 3403.19 | Lubricating Preparations (With 70% or More Petroleum Oils) For Automotive and Other Uses

Main features
- Water-Repellent High-Voltage Insulator Coating
- 800-Minute ASTM D2303 Arc Resistance
- Hand, Pad, Brush, or Spray Renewal
Product Description
MOLYKOTE® 3099 HVIC Compound is a gray, opaque, greaselike silicone protective coating for high-voltage electrical insulators. It combines water repellency with arc resistance to support flashover protection under high-voltage stress, ultraviolet exposure, water erosion, and particulate contamination. The soft, non-stringy compound adheres to properly prepared insulators and can be applied by hand, cloth pad, bristle brush, or properly configured airless spray equipment. Its opaque color supports visual confirmation of a smooth, complete coating, while typical electrical data include 1.46 × 1013 ohm-cm volume resistivity and 285 V/mil dielectric strength at 50 mil thickness. Normal application produces a 1/16- to 1/8-in coating; the exact service interval remains site-dependent and should be established through inspection and operating experience.
Key features
- Water-repellent protective coating: Grease-like silicone formulation for electrical insulators exposed to high-voltage stress, ultraviolet light, water erosion, and particulate contamination.
- Arc resistance: Typical ASTM D2303 result of 800 minutes to erode a 1/8-in coating at 2.5 kV.
- Electrical properties: Typical volume resistivity of 1.46 × 1013 ohm-cm and dielectric strength of 285 V/mil at 50 mil thickness, ASTM D149.
- Controlled application: Applies by hand, cloth pad, bristle brush, or properly configured airless spray equipment at a typical thickness of 1/16 to 1/8 in.
- Visual coverage control: Gray, opaque appearance helps operators confirm a smooth, complete coating on prepared insulator surfaces.
Applications / Suitable for
- High-voltage transmission-line insulator strings
- Suspension insulators in coastal or contamination-exposed installations
- Substation bushings and related high-voltage electrical insulators

Additional Information
MOLYKOTE® 3099 HVIC Compound
A gray, greaselike silicone coating for electrical insulators exposed to high-voltage stress. Water repellency, arc-resistant formulation, good adhesion, and a soft, non-stringy consistency support uniform application and evaluation in ultraviolet, water-erosion, and particulate-contamination environments. The coating remains soft for removal and recoating, while its gray opacity supports visual coverage checks.
MOLYKOTE® 3099 HVIC Compound is supplied as a gray, greaselike silicone coating for electrical insulators.

Prepare, apply, and maintain a complete coating
Application quality depends on a clean, dry insulator surface and a smooth, continuous coating. Select hand, pad, brush, or airless-spray application according to the insulator geometry and site conditions.
Application should create smooth, complete coverage while avoiding overfill between the underside skirts of fog-type insulators.
Application sequence and equipment guidance
Shelf life is 60 months from the date of manufacture. Review the current safety data and container label before handling. When spraying or using a solvent, follow the solvent supplier’s safety recommendations and applicable regulations. Do not use flammable or combustible solvents for application to energized circuits.
Electrical insulator application contexts
The compound is used as a protective coating on electrical insulators. Use and field-test contexts include transmission, coastal suspension, and substation installations; product fit and service intervals remain specific to the insulator design, contamination level, electrical stress, and maintenance practice.
